today we want to highlight an artist within our community but we’ll let him speak for himself <3

“Hello, how’s it going! My name is Adam Schmieder (aka “chictapi”), and I’m a composer and music artist from Los Angeles, California.

When it comes to my art, I think a big source of my inspiration comes from the media I grew up on throughout my adolescence. Whether that be cartoons, videogames, or even gmod animations and YouTube Poops, those influences have shaped both my sense of humor and the desire to evoke these child-like experiences in my own art, albeit now with a sense of refinement and more professionality as I reflect on these experiences from the perspective of an adult.

The music I make has a very similar story. I grew up listening to a lot of electronic music, and over the years I’ve found myself coming back again and again to this particular genre. Artists like Porter Robinson, Aphex Twin, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Floating Points have had a tremendous influence in the way I approach music and sound design, and I think their influences can be traced within my own music, buried underneath everything else.

However, I’m also a composer! I obtained a degree in Music Composition from UCSB in 2022, and have been working as a freelance composer and sound designer for short films, promos, and videogames around the Los Angeles area. Because of this, I feel as though the music I end up releasing under “chictapi” reflects the meticulous nature of my ear as a composer, with each song taking the listener on a journey through different styles, textures, and emotions.
