hellooo skrewers!! we have an artist that we’re very excited to share with you today (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) .ᐟ.ᐟ
presenting… @erthsdrywall !!
“Heyooo! My name’s Harley Firouz and I’m a music/visual artist from Laguna Beach, CA. I’ve always been a big creative and love experimenting with things from drawing to jewelry to what I mostly do now which is painting and making music :)
Growing up we had a lot of Kandinsky-esque art around the house but it wasn’t until high school when I really started getting into the more abstract stuff and found my flow. I’m a big fan of texture and believe art is as tactile as it is visual, so I often use things like baking soda, inks, tinfoil, wax, even old dried up paint to get my desired effects. It always starts out simple enough- pulling paints by whatever colors I’m feeling that day and just going in with big shapes and blocking. Layer by layer it builds up until it feels done, but there’s no rhyme or reason to the process. In a sense, having no formal art background helped me be more comfortable with letting my intuition take the lead.
I’m definitely a maximalist. I like being able to find something new after seeing a piece 100 times before, so I keep the eye candy detail heavy.
I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember and am now studying music at UCSB. I just released a single called “Something Funny” under my artist name, Nabi, on Spotify/Apple Music and am hoping to get an album out of the vault sometime this year! My sound is always changing but pulls inspiration from artists like Björk, Amy Winehouse, RHCP and Grimes. No matter the form, you can always expect lots of layers and things to find in my art.
Hope you like it as much as I do.
Xoxo,
Harley”
p.s. i highly recommend checking out harley’s new song… a little sample has been included but it is so worth it to check out the full release on spotify!! (something funny - nabi)
